Stratford Road Improvements -
First grants on
the way!

Hajee’s Spices, formally the Antelope Public House in Sparkbrook, is the first beneficiary of Birmingham City Council’s Stratford Road business grant scheme. The completed work has seen the grade II listed building sympathetically refurbished - transforming the traditional pub into a vibrant, stylish restaurant.

Owner, Mr Tariq Mahmood said “I really appreciate the excellent support of Birmingham City Council to refurbish the old Antelope. Their help has meant that I have been able to undertake a very high quality refurbishment of the property, which I think will reflect the quality of the restaurant I plan to open”.

Birmingham City Council’s business improvement initiative has received widespread support from local traders, with an impressive 171 expressions of interest, for property and business security enhancements, submitted by companies on Stratford Road over the last 6 months. The scheme is part of the wider A34 Stratford Road Corridor Improvement Programme, which will fund environmental improvements such as updated street furniture and signage as well as marketing initiatives to promote the area to the wider community.
